Today is a day off to enjoy whatever we want to do. I was thinking about taking a surf lesson at Domes Beach. Well whatever we end up doing it will be at a beach. This evening we are going to a traditional food and music festival in Aguada.
We decided to go snorkeling off of the ledge at Steps Beach. Puerto Rico is a volcanic island. Steps beach has a rock shelf which comes up to the beach and it makes a great place to find shells and live crabs. You need water shoes to walk into the water because of the rock and the seaweed that grows on top makes it very slippery. This beach is part of Tres Palmas Marine Reserve where you can see endangered Elkhorn coral. Zack had a book identifying the different types of coral and fish. Once you climb over the rock you get into the deeper water to snorkel around the coral reef.
Photo on the Right. Back row: Alex, Brent, Zack, and Dawn. Front row: Vipin, Joseph, and me. Mom took the photo and never likes to be in the photos. If you haven't already figured it out, it was named "Steps" Beach because someone dropped concrete steps on the beach and that is where they remain.
Turns out everyone was not hungry after lunch at the food truck and we were a little wiped out from snorkeling. So we didn't go to the food festival afterall. When we got back to the house Brent and Alex did pork chops on the grill for dinner and we walked to the hotel down the street to play pool and ping pong.
